Sam Claflin

Samuel George Claflin, known as Sam Claflin, was born on June 27, 1986, in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. He grew up in Norwich, Norfolk, where he attended Costessey High School (now Ormiston Victory Academy). Claflin initially aspired to be a professional footballer and played for Norwich City Academy. However, an ankle injury at age 16 ended his football dreams.

Claflin’s interest in acting was sparked during his school years, particularly after participating in a school play. Encouraged by his teacher, he pursued drama and joined the local youth group at Norwich’s Theatre Royal. He later attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), graduating in 2009.

Claflin’s early career was marked by television roles. He made his TV debut in the historical miniseries “The Pillars of the Earth” (2010), followed by a role in “Any Human Heart” (2010). His film debut came in 2011 with “United,” where he portrayed footballer Duncan Edwards.

Claflin gained international recognition as Philip Swift in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” (2011). However, his breakthrough role was as Finnick Odair in “The Hunger Games” series, appearing in “Catching Fire” (2013), “Mockingjay - Part 1” (2014), and “Mockingjay - Part 2” (2015). His portrayal of Finnick earned him widespread acclaim and a dedicated fanbase.
