Early Life & Background


Nicholas Hoult was born in Wokingham, Berkshire, England, as the third of four children. His mother, Glenis Hoult, was a piano teacher, while his father, Roger Hoult, worked as a commercial pilot. His middle name, Caradoc, is of Middle Welsh origin and translates to "beloved one."


Hoult grew up in Sindlesham, a village in Wokingham, where he was surrounded by creativity. His older siblings were involved in acting and dance, which inspired him to pursue performance from a young age. He attended Ranelagh School in Bracknell Forest and later studied at Farnborough Sixth Form College.


His first exposure to acting came when he accompanied his siblings to auditions. At the age of six, he made his screen debut in Intimate Relations (1996), marking the beginning of his career in film and television.

Hoult gained international recognition with his role as Marcus Brewer in About a Boy (2002), starring alongside Hugh Grant. His performance earned him critical acclaim and set the stage for his transition into more mature roles.
